Can a Joke Become Literature?

A joke can be a sentence, a performance, a drawing, a product—or an entire book. The boundary depends on what the work asks the reader to notice.

When form becomes part of the joke

Conceptual comedy makes the premise visible. Instead of delivering a conventional punchline, the object itself creates the comic recognition.

Novelty does not mean empty

A book can be deliberately silly while still engaging questions about language, expectation, authorship and the cultural authority of the book format.

EW as an example

EW takes a familiar expression and gives it an entire physical book. Whether a reader experiences it as a gag, artwork, literary experiment or gift is part of the work's ambiguity.
