The 30 Books of the Archive
The Archive plans 30 books — each built on one word. Five are published. Twenty-five remain. What the complete archive would look like, and why 30 is the right number.
The five books so far
EW, UGH, LOL, YIKES, MEH: five words that cover a range of emotional registers. Disgust, frustration, laughter, alarm, indifference. The series already spans much of the vocabulary of digital reaction — but there are many more.
Why reaction words
The Archive has chosen reaction words specifically — not nouns, not verbs, not adjectives. Interjections are the part of speech that operates outside of grammar. They are pure emotional signal. Giving each one a novel is giving grammar-free expression the most grammar-heavy form in existence.
What completeness would mean
A complete archive of 30 reaction-word novels would constitute a catalog of human emotional response — compressed, repeated, and formalized. Each book would be identical in structure and radically different in effect. Together they would be something that has no precedent in literature.
