What Is Conceptual Comedy?

Conceptual comedy is comedy in which the premise, structure, constraint, format or physical object creates much of the humor.

The premise can be the punchline

Instead of hiding the mechanism behind a joke, conceptual comedy can put the mechanism in plain sight. The audience laughs because the idea is unexpectedly committed to its own ridiculousness.

Repetition as a concept

Repetition can become funny when the audience understands that the repeated element is intentional and disproportionate to the expected outcome. This is central to the concept behind EW.
